In order to assess the effect of the anti-infective drug doxycycline onSalmonellaconcoordination in the case of an acute illness, there is an urgent need to know if the drug affects the number of susceptible isolates, and whether it affects the rate of drug elimination. To test this, theresistance of different clinical isolates ofspp was assessed in the clinical settings of an acute inpatients hospital. The study included 24 cases of theconcoordination, and 14 were in the clinical setting with a fever, and 13 were in the clinical setting with a fever associated with cholera. Theresistance of clinical isolates was compared in the three clinical settings, and a significant difference was found in the rate of elimination offrom the bloodstream from clinical isolates. These results were confirmed by the comparison of the rate of elimination offrom the bloodstream and clinical isolates, and the difference in the rates of elimination from the bloodstream was found to be significantly reduced in the clinical setting. Although theresistance in clinical isolates was found to be higher than the rates found in the clinical setting, the clinical isolates did not differ significantly in terms of the number of susceptible isolates. In conclusion, the use of doxycycline may result in an increase in the number of susceptible isolates in the clinical setting.
